If you are anything like me, you never have wrapping paper when you need it. Never. And, to top it off, you are typically running late, which makes the option of buying some…not really an option! The good news is that you don’t actually need wrapping paper at all! For the majority of my life, I have been wrapping gifts in materials I had at home already. Now, it may not work for every situation, but for some it may be the perfectly quirky and quaint solution to your wrapping dilemma.
What you will need…(and, hopefully have lying around the house):
- Your Paper (Newspaper, Craft Paper Roll, Old Magazines, Butcher Paper):
All of these materials double as wonderful wrapping paper. Just select the one that is most appropriate for the gift or occasion. The comic section works really well for a young boy’s gift; the black and white color of newspaper can be a sophisticated backdrop with a fun & vibrant splash of color on top; and craft paper is perfect for any occasion, with the appropriate topper.
- Scissors and tape.
- The Icing on Top (Ribbon, Yarn, Raffia…whatever you have or like to use):
Because I work with ribbon on a regular basis, I tend to have a lot in the house to wrap with. But, I also love to use raffia or twine….and, my newest obsession…yarn! If you are crafty at all, chances are, you have some sort of string or material that would look lovely wrapped around your gift box. You can also feel free to jazz up your presentation with a small ornament or homemade nametag.
The point is, to be creative and use what you have already……just in case that trip to the store doesn’t fit into your schedule.
