The Story of Mayhar Design
Texas-born sisters, Melanie McKinley and Ashleigh Davis, launched Mayhar Design in 2009. Although their personalities are radically different, the sisters seem to create a perfectly complimentary business relationship; Melanie is the right-brained, whimsical designer, while Ashleigh brings the left-brained business sense and marketing know-how to the table.
The concept for Mayhar Design was originally conceived when Melanie was living in New York City, working as a freelance designer and seamstress for David Beahm Designs. Her skills and aptitude for unique fabrics and design launched orders for hand-stitched ring pillows, comprised of elegant fabrics and ribbon.
Excited about the opportunities and curious how she could turn this into a business, Melanie turned to her younger sister, Ashleigh. An entrepreneur always challenging herself to learn something new, Ashleigh quickly jumped on board to launch Mayhar Design.
